Does your novel, memoir, or project need fresh eyes?

Developmental editor for fiction, memoir, and academic writing

As Head of Editorial at NAC Literary Agency and a traditionally published author, I've helped more than 100 authors develop their manuscripts from early draft to publication-ready submission.

Working closely with agents, publishers, and authors gives me unique insight into what makes a manuscript stand out in today's market.

I've worked across commercial fiction, romance, memoir, and academic writing, helping authors strengthen their manuscripts for both traditional publication and self-publishing.

Whether you're seeking a full developmental edit, help preparing for submission, or one-on-one coaching, I can help you strengthen your writing and move confidently toward your publishing goals.

What is developmental editing?

Developmental editing focuses on the big-picture elements of a manuscript: structure, plot, pacing, character development, theme, and point of view. Through detailed editorial feedback, I'll help you identify what's working, pinpoint what's holding your manuscript back, and create a clear path forward.

Each developmental edit includes in-text comments throughout your manuscript, light line editing where appropriate, a comprehensive editorial report outlining strengths and areas for improvement, and a follow-up Zoom or phone consultation to discuss the feedback and create a clear revision plan.

What clients say

Here’s what authors have said about working with me:

Glenn Kleier, Worldwide bestselling author

Prophet of Queens (Thriller)

"Over the years I've had the privilege and pleasure of working with some outstanding editors, and I must say, Bella's eyes are among the best. The whole point of editing is to make clear to the writer issues she/he is simply too myopic to spot. I found myself nodding in agreement with regularity. Always her suggestions were food for thought and stimulated much reflection."

Jessie Cal, USA Today bestselling author

Memories Lost (Romantic Suspense)

"I am so grateful for Bella's expert eyes on my manuscript. She not only pointed out basic errors but also made me think about why I had made the choices I had made. Her editorial help has made me a better writer.”
